Tuk-tuk waterfiltration system Lake Turkana

After community consultations and three months of hard work, it was time to return to Lake Turkana. This time, we came heavily equipped, with our portable water filtration tuk-tuk system on board!

Ever heard of the metaphor “building the bridge while walking on it”? That perfectly sums up our experience during field testing. Long distances (somehow always longer in real life), deep sand, rising water levels, missing spare parts… and did we already mention sand?

Thankfully, our team, together with the community, found creative solutions for all challenges.

As with any real-world test, not everything worked on the first try. This was not just a field test of technology, but a process of co-creation with the community and the environment itself, resulting in several collaborative outcomes:

  • The tuk-tuk reached its destination
  • The filtration system worked
  • The community loved the taste of the clean water

One community member said, “A house with access to clean water is a real house”.

That stayed with us. Since our system is mobile, it can turn any house into a real house.

We gathered valuable insights for the next prototype, but even now, the system has proven itself: it can deliver clean drinking water to remote communities, even in these harsh conditions, designed not just for but with the people who need it most.

Several community members were enthusiastic about the name “Maji Safi Popote” (clean water anywhere) for the portable water filtration tuk-tuk system. What do you think? Feel free to reach out to one of our consultations, we are curious to hear  you suggestions.

Let’s make clean water truly accessible, together.
