Urban farming practices in Thika, Kenya

Feline and Lisa visited the Thika campus of the Kenya School of Agriculture in Kenya this week! For the project “Market driven training programs for the horticultural sector in Kenya,” we will develop new courses in the field of future-proof and sustainable agriculture. After consultation with the involved parties, urban farming was identified as one of the focal points.

Urban farming is a collective term for agricultural practices that are applicable in areas with high population density and limited space, such as small plots of land, rooftops, vacant lots, or community gardens. Urban farming fits perfectly into the transition to local food production, community-based agriculture, shorter value chains, and increasing food security for vulnerable groups and climate vulnerability.

To get inspired by the already implemented urban farming practices at KSA, we paid a visit to see the setup in Thika in person.
